HOOKED ON HAIKU™
Hooked on Haiku™ Contest Rules
If you wish to enter the contest, you may submit a set of up to five haiku per each $10 Entry Fee, by International Haiku Day after year end of the current Annual Contest via the comment link above, or by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to: George Hook, Unit 104, 153 Pointe Drive, Northbrook, Illinois, 60062, in each case with (a) the Official Entry Form, and (b) $10 per set of up to five haiku, payable through PayPal or by check payable to George C. Hook and mailed to the above address.
There is no limit to the number of haiku that may be submitted. Up to one hundred best haiku will be published in BEST HUNDRED HOOKED ON HAIKUtm OF THE YEAR, as determined by the publisher, and will be available in May of the year following. The ten best haiku, as determined by the publisher, will be noted as such in BEST HUNDRED HOOKED ON HAIKUtm OF THE YEAR. Three special prizes will be awarded as follows: FIRST PLACE: 20%, SECOND PLACE: 15%, and THIRD PLACE: 10% of Gross Contest Proceeds, as determined by the combined vote of the publisher and of those who are proven purchasers of any one or more of any Hooked on Haiku™, More Hooked on Haiku™, or any BEST HUNDRED HOOKED ON HAIKU™ with each such voter entitled to one vote per each such proven purchased volume through the date the ballot is submitted. (See Ballot Form below.) In addition, 50% of net profits from publication of BEST HUNDRED HOOKED ON HAIKU™ OF THE YEAR and distribution will be shared equally by all entrants, whether published or not, except that the ten best published winners as determined by the publisher will receive three shares, each additional published poet two shares, thereby reducing the share amount of all entrants to that extent, and except that no such entitlements of less than $1.00 shall be paid out, unless the publisher, in its sole and unreviewable discretion, determines to make a lesser threshold payout. All prize and other payouts will be made through PayPal, by check or other like means as determined by the publisher.
Poetic merit and subject matter shall be the basis for judging by the publisher. Purchaser Ballot voting should likewise be based on such criteria. However, since judging by Purchaser Ballot voters cannot be subject to any enforceable criteria other than judging of one's own haiku that shall be the sole basis for vote disqualification in determining the prize tally. Purchaser votes shall be tallied by the publisher exclusively from submissions to it of ballots provided for the BEST HUNDRED HOOKED ON HAIKU™ OF THE YEAR Contest. (See Ballot Form below.) All decisions as to award payouts shall be made ultimately by the publisher based upon these criteria and shall be final. This Contest should be deemed valid only where not prohibited by law and entries received from jurisdictions where the publisher determines that the Contest would be invalid will be returned within a reasonable time after such prohibition is brought to the attention of the publisher and validated.
